POSITION PURPOSE:

The Denver Art Museum Exhibitions department works with contract graphic designers for all in-gallery graphic design and production needs. The Assistant Project Manager, Exhibition Graphics, manages and coordinates all graphic design related activities including oversight of contractors, vendors, scheduling, in-gallery graphic standards, and management of graphics installations. This position works closely with the Exhibitions planning team, members of the Learning and Engagement (L&E) team, Curatorial, along with contract exhibition and graphic designers to plan and implement the graphic design identity for all in-gallery and programmed spaces. This position is part of a dynamic, inclusive, and creative team who are committed to creating memorable museum experiences for all.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with the exhibition planning team to identify, coordinate and schedule graphic designers for exhibitions, rotations, and related L&E programs.
  • Integrates DAM’s Racial Equity lens to all aspects of the planning and implementation process and champions inclusive and proactive communications.
  • Acts as liason to production vendors for all exhibition and rotation graphic needs and assists the Exhibitions Department in sourcing vendors for additional specialty design items and services. Works in collaboration with the Exhibition Planning team to identify and expand our pool BIPOC contract graphic designers and vendors.
  • Drafts and manages contracts for all contract graphic designers and other contractors as needed.
  • Works with Project Managers, cross-department stakeholders and designers to evolve and maintain institutional graphic design standards for all in-gallery and programmed spaces and communicates standards with all design contractors.
  • Manages the phased editing, proof-reading and translation workflow for all exhibition interpretive materials.
  • Develops project budgets and estimates for graphics production and installation.
  • Generates POs, and processes, tracks, and reconciles invoices related to graphics production.
  • Maintains graphic design archive files for all projects and manages in-house design materials inventories.
  • Schedules and manages graphics mockups for all exhibitions and rotations.
  • Project manages rotations and/or exhibitions as time and schedule allows.
  • Has a strong understanding of environmental graphics and related principles, along with a with a keen eye for design and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Works with designers and vendors to identify more environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives to more traditional products and materials.
  • Coordinates closely with the Development team on the installation of in-gallery donor signage
  • Manages part-time staff to assist with gallery graphics installation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


QUALIFICIATIONS:

  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to find creative solutions in a flexible and inclusive manner.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Ability to schedule and effectively delegate graphics installation oversight to project part-time support staff.
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas and recommendations to all project stakeholders.
  • Comfortable using museum equipment such as ladders, carts etc.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of graphic production methods and materials and an interest in extending that knowledge.
  • Knowledge of InDesign/Photoshop
  • Knowledge of professional museum exhibition, curatorial, and safe art moving processes and practices.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Skilled in negotiation and resolution of non-routine problems .
  • Skilled in establishing priorities and efficiently coordinating work activities.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Art Courier assignments as needed.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

  • BA or Certification in project management, graphic design, visual arts, museum studies or related field preferred.
  • Two to three years’ experience in exhibition planning, project management, design, curatorial office or equivalent required. Some graphic design experience and knowledge of graphic production, materials and processing preferred.

Compensation : The hiring hourly/salary for the position is $23.17 $26.44 per hour based on experience.
