BWC is currently operating under a hybrid schedule that may incorporate both teleworking and in-person office hours. Employees must be able to report to the office when requested by management &/or for their initial job training.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Researching, reviewing and preparing initial case data for all SID allegations;
  • Answering calls from BWC Fraud Hotline and talking to external sources of allegations (i.e., public, employers, law enforcement agencies, other government entities, etc...);
  • Initiating data runs and utilizing criminal justice databases that will be used by the investigative teams;
  • Developing spreadsheets to document, categorize & analyze evidence (e.g., financial records, employment records, billing & claims data);
  • Attending team meetings, case briefings, and internal/external trainings.

To Qualify, You Must
Clearly Demonstrate:

12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in conducting investigations of complaints or possible violations of laws & rules or agency/company policies & procedures.


Or completion of associate degree program core coursework in law enforcement. Note: Positions in Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation may require use of proficiency demonstrations to determine Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment.


Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Unusual Working Conditions:


  • May work non-standard schedule including early morning, late night, holiday & weekend hours.
    Incumbent must successfully pass state highway patrol personal background check.
  • Position requires travel; therefore, persons occupying position must provide own transportation &/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.
  • Position may require overnight &/or out of state travel.
  • May conduct surveillance for extended periods of time in extreme temperatures; may work in confined areas such as a surveillance vehicle; may encounter violent persons; may be exposed to unsanitary items in discarded trash.


BWC OCSEA Selection Rights:

This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. BWC bargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. All other applications will only be considered if an internal bargaining unit applicant is not selected for this position.

Salary Information:
Hourly wage is expected to be paid at step 1 of the pay range associated with the position for candidates who are new employees of the state. Current employees of the state will be placed in the appropriate step based on any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code. Movement to the next step of the pay range (a roughly 4% increase) will occur after six months, assuming job performance is acceptable. Thereafter, an employee will advance one step in the pay range every year until the highest step of the pay range is reached. There may also be possible cost of living adjustments (COLA) and longevity supplements begin after five (5) years of state service.

Transportation:
Position may require travel; therefore, persons occupying this position must be able to provide own transportation &/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.

Background Check Information


Required Background Check & Drug Test

Prior to an offer of employment, the final applicant will be required to sign a background check authorization form and undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position.

All final applicants tentatively selected for this position may be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment unless the applicant submits medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana.

Note: pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code 4501: 2-10-03 (D) users of system shall adhere to policies & guidelines published in NCIC operating manual, CJIS security policy, LEADS operating manual, LEADS security policy, newsletters,& administrative messages from LEADS, all of which are either available on ODPS/LEADS intranet or disseminated to LEADS agencies; pursuant to LEADS security policy, state & national fingerprint-based record checks must be conducted within 30 days of initial employment or assignment of all personnel, including appropriate IT personnel, having access to LEADS, or to records storage areas containing CCH/II data; minimum check must include submission of both a State of Ohio BCI& I card & an FBI applicant fingerprint card; both completed applicant fingerprint cards must be submitted by employing agency to State of Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation for processing & forwarding to Federal Bureau of Investigation; record of this check must be kept by employing agency & made available to LEADS upon request; fingerprint card returned by Ohio BCI&I is sufficient documentation.
