We are hiring a Software Engineer to develop, test, and improve the Ubuntu Pro client, a command-line tool that manages security patching services for enterprise and personal Ubuntu users. You will collaborate with the Ubuntu Server team, cloud partners, and other Canonical teams to enhance the Pro client, ensuring its quality and stability since it is pre-installed on all Ubuntu systems. Your work will impact a broad user base, from mission-critical environments to hobbyists.

Responsibilities include:

1. Collaborate proactively with a distributed team
2. Write high-quality code with unit and functional tests
3. Debug issues and produce fixes
4. Review code from peers
5. Discuss ideas and investigate solutions
6. Work remotely with occasional travel (2-4 weeks/year)

Ideal candidates will have:

• A passion for technology and collaboration
• Curiosity, flexibility, articulation, and accountability
• Soft skills such as being thoughtful, enterprising, and self-motivated
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or STEM
• Extensive experience with Python on Linux
• Interest or experience with Ubuntu Linux system administration, CI, Debian packaging, cloud platforms
• Open source community engagement (a plus)
