Overview

League School for Autism is an award-winning, year-round program dedicated to the education of children on the autism spectrum. Our team approach to education creates a collaborative, supportive and open environment within our community. We are currently seeking a SENIOR DIRECTOR OF EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY for our program in Walpole. Annual starting salary range is $125K - $145K.

Basic Function

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Director of Educational Strategy (SDOES) is responsible for the conceptual development of all League School for Autism educational, vocational, and other related programs.

Qualifications

  • MA license for Special Education Administration
  • Masters Degree, Special Education preferred.
  • Ten years experience working in special education in progressively responsible roles. At least five years experience must be with an autistic, atypical population.
  • Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of Autism and familiarity with a psycho-educational, multidisciplinary team approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, as well as familiarity with 603 CMR 28.00: Special Education regulations and procedures.
  • Safety Care, CPR and First Aid certifications (League School will provide training.)
  • Must pass CORI background check.
  • Valid Drivers License

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership:

    Provide strategic vision and leadership for all educational and vocational programs, ensuring alignment with the schools mission, regulatory requirements, and long-term institutional goals.

    b. Supervise and support program directors (DOE and DTE) by setting performance expectations, conducting evaluations, and fostering leadership development to strengthen organizational capacity.

    c. Oversee cross-functional integration of academic, vocational, clinical, and residential services to deliver cohesive, learner-centered programming for autistic and neurodiverse students.

    d. Ensure regulatory compliance and accreditation standards across all educational programs, including DESE licensure, special education regulations (603 CMR 28.00), and human rights protections.

    e. Lead strategic planning and resource allocation in collaboration with the COO and Finance Department, balancing innovation with financial sustainability.

    f. Cultivate external partnerships and community relationships (school districts, agencies, employers, higher education institutions) to expand opportunities for student transition, career readiness, and inclusive community engagement.

    g. Champion professional development and organizational learning by promoting evidence-based practices, staff training, and a culture of continuous improvement.

  2. Strategize the Coordination and Implementation of Vocational and Education Services:

    a. Ensure the provision of appropriate assessments by education personnel for each enrolled student as promptly as possible around the admission date and yearly reviews.

    b. Supervise the coordination, development, and implementation of an Individual Education Program for each student enrolled, in conjunction with responsible district Team Chairs/Out of District Coordinators and League School Education Coordinators (EC).

    c. Identify, develop, and monitor appropriate curricula and/or programs for carrying out all individual education plans.

    d. Oversee coordination of MCAS testing and maintenance of MCAS database.

    e. Conduct regular performance evaluations and coaching to support professional growth, maintain quality standards, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  3. Manage Student Enrollment and Intake:

    a. Participate in long-range planning, as it relates to intake needs/classroom groupings.

    b. Act as a member of the Admissions Committee.

    c. Work with the Admissions Coordinator and/or referring school districts seeking placement of students.

    d. Participate in the interdisciplinary team placement decision.

  4. Program Monitoring:

    a. Ensure program quality standards are aligned with best practices and current research.

    b. Support the review of program documentation of Incident Reports, Quarterly Progress reports, and/or IEPs.

    c. Perform classroom observations on a quarterly basis. Document the observations and review them with the EC to identify corrective actions or best practices.

  5. General Administration Duties:

    a. Develop and monitor a departmental budget, in coordination with the Finance Department including completion of necessary ordering.

    b. Support the Hire, evaluate and, as necessary, dismiss education staff.

    c. Plan and develop professional development opportunities for education staff in coordination with the Professional Development Manager.

    d. Participate in weekly administration meetings, as assigned, to problem-solve and plan the course of the organizations activities.

    e. Conduct annual review and revision of assigned sections of the policies and procedures manual, as needed.

    f. Coordinate services including with the Clinical, Allied Health, and Residential Management teams within assigned programs to provide educational and programmatic input and insight on program development and strategic planning.

    g. For residential students, ensure cross programmatic cooperation and implementation of IEP goals, behavior plans, etc.

    h. Ensure the provision of services is delivered to all students and families in a respectful and dignified manner. Students should receive educational services in an environment free of abuse and neglect and with respect to their human rights.

    i. Coordinate and complete annual renewal of DESE license/EEC documents and ensure ongoing compliance with the regulations.

    j. Other responsibilities, as deemed necessary by the COO and/or CEO.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
