Apply nowThe Team: The Just Walk Out (JWO) team in AWS recently launched its 100th store, and we’re looking for a Senior Manager- Design to lead our next set of industry-changing innovations to further delight shoppers for the next 100 stores and beyond. Today, JWO delights shoppers in physical stores by saving them from the time and hassle of checkout lines by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technologies like computer vision and generative AI along with shelf sensors, cameras, sensor fusion, and RFID. Just enter the store with a tap of your credit card, pick up what you want, and skip the checkout when done. No lines, no item by item scanning, no checkout. At JWO stores, the technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart, so shoppers really do “just walk out.” You can find JWO today at stores across the US, UK, Canada, and Australia — stadiums, airports, grocery stores, convenience stores and more. Some stores are owned by retailer customers using JWO (learn more about our customers here: ). Other stores are owned and operated by Amazon (Amazon Go, select Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh locations).
The Role: You are a leader with a track record of looking around corners and hustling to be first to launch game-changing products that solve real customer pain points in inventive and delightful ways. You inspire and develop your team of UX Designers, Industrial Designers, and UX Researchers to reach their full potential. You build a collaborative culture within your team and with cross-functional stakeholders. Together with your team, you are the voice of design for the JWO organization. We will look to you to help the organization hold the product to high design standards while also enabling rapid launches. Knowing when to slow down to optimize aspects of the experience, how to expediently validate risks/hypotheses, and when to bias for action and hustle to launch will be particularly key. Clear visual, written and verbal communication skills will also be critical to your success, as will experience influencing stakeholders outside the design function, and eagerness to engage in spirited debates on highly ambiguous design, product, business and technical questions. We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations: Seattle, WA, USA- 10+ years of design experience
- 5+ years of leading multi-discipline Design teams (ie. visual design, interaction design, user research, etc.) experience
- Experience managing teams
- Experience leading a diverse team in the delivery of experiences from end to end (user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity visuals)
- Portfolio of work demonstrating expertise in customer-centric design solutions
- Bachelor’s, or equivalent degree, in Design, HCI, ID, or related field or equivalent professional experience within the design field
- Experience presenting to and effectively advising senior leaders outside of design
- Experience embedding design within product teams for agile design and development collaboration
- Experience with design in physical retail environments
