Nature of Work

Specialized and technical work in analyzing, organizing, and presenting crime data and statistics.


Work involves receiving data pertaining to crime from various sources; analyzing the data; organizing it, and presenting it in coherent and meaningful form in accordance with instructions from a superior. Crime data is obtained through analysis of pertinent reports, monitoring of computerized and other data, and through the obtaining and analysis of criminal and intelligence information from local, state, and federal agencies. Assignments are received in the form of oral or written instructions and work may be reviewed, in process or upon completion, by a supervisor or designee.

Essential Functions


Reads and analyzes criminal, intelligence, and other data from varied sources for summarizing and organizing as required.


Obtains information, as required, from federal, state and local agencies concerning assigned research areas.


Furnishes criminal and intelligence information to department members and other agencies as directed.


Initiates and maintains, in accordance with rules, correspondence with other agencies as required to obtain and transmit necessary information.


Maintains files of criminal and intelligence information. Preserves confidentiality of files and information as required.


Attends and reports results of relevant meetings and conferences as directed.


Gathers investigation crime data; ensures that it organized into tactical, strategic, and case management reports.


Assist other law enforcement agencies by participating in special programs created to secure, use, and exchange sensitive information with multiple agencies.


Assist with the distribution of information to concerned individuals and units.


Contributes and assists in gathering information from available sources. Researches data and potential sources of relevant information.


Performs other related work as required.



Minimum Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of 60 college credits and three (3) years experience in tactical, strategic, and administrative crime analysis or applied social science research for a law enforcement agency.

OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of the required experience.

If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.

To qualify under the equivalency clause, applicant must provide proof of education in one or more of the following applicable forms: copy of high school diploma or equivalent, Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree or higher.

*Approved Credential Evaluation Agencies:

Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by:

  • An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR
  • A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (), OR
  • A current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators (), OR
  • A recognized Professional Organization

Selection Preference: Selection preference within the same ranking band resulting from an interview process will be granted in the following order: 1) preference eligible veterans, 2) active City of Miami employees, 3) City of Miami residents, 4) all others.
