**Description**
GDS seeks an experienced high school photography teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The candidate will join a diverse visual arts team that upholds high expectations, fosters creative and technical development, and facilitates the intellectual growth of our students. The successful applicant will be experienced in teaching foundational to advanced levels of digital photography courses to a diverse group of students. The candidate will play a role in helping to develop innovative course content that embraces a multicultural curriculum reflecting the diverse cultural experiences of our students, and embodies GDS mission. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of both analog and digital photographic processes, and be conversant in historical and contemporary fine art movements and applied approaches to the medium.
**Expectations**
* **Inspire, engage, and encourage students in the study of photography**
* **Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered**
* **Work with colleagues and administrators in the development of goals for the curriculum**
* **Provide students an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the school, texts and readings, assignments, rubrics and clear evaluation methods and criteria.**
* **Assess and analyze students' performance and progress to ensure they are mastering developmental skills regularly.**
* **Use professional growth opportunities to continually develop as a visual arts educator**
* **Work collaboratively with colleagues within the studio arts department, as well as any and all other upper school departments**
* **Work effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse backgrounds**
* **Maintain an open line of communication with families**
* **Become an active member of the GDS community by participating in school activities inside and outside of the visual arts department including annual art shows**
* **Develop an innovative curriculum that incorporates photography, art history, contemporary art movements, and multicultural projects.**
* **Support, teach and act in accordance with the school's mission, values and core beliefs**
* **Exhibit professionalism: confidentiality, courtesy, and discretion**
* **Respond to the needs of the School, including but not limited to, community service, minimester, advisory programs, coaching, assigned supervision, and other areas as determined by the principal or department chair**
* **Leverage the use of mobile devices to innovate new ways of taking photos**
* **Keep abreast of new trends and technology that can be applied to real world applications**
* **Work to maintain a positive culture on campus by building strong relationships with students, alumni, department and staff members**
* **Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions**
* **Meet common expectations: prepare for class, be punctual, attend all meetings, and meet deadlines (grades, comment writing, etc.)**
* **Ability to teach other visual arts courses**
* **Experience with historical photography research projects**
* **Engage in ones own personal artistic practice**
* **Maintain an active presence in the regional art community**
* **Good writing and communication skills**
* **Patience and flexibility are required**
**Employment Qualifications**
* **Masters Degree or equivalent experience**
* **Minimum 3+ years teaching photography in high school or equivalent**
* **Digital experience with Adobe Creative Suite required**
* **Expertise in teaching Photoshop and Lightroom required**
* **Wide range of photography subject matter expertise**
* **The ability to teach foundational courses in several media would be a plus.**
* **Candidates for this position will be required to submit a personal portfolio of 15-20 images that show a breadth of styles including studio lighting, motion work, portraiture, landscape, night shots, and street photography.**
